Providing education to our community is an engagement strategy to further our organizational mission and deepen our connection to our local community. We believe that by educating our community on the importance of blood donation, as well as facilitating an increased understanding of blood as a life-saving therapy, it will further connect individuals to our life-saving mission.
As part of a team the Community Educator will serve as a subject matter expert by presenting the America’s Blood Centers curriculum Vein-to-Vein (V2V) in educational settings. This newly developed program is a component of Bloodwork’s broader community engagement strategy. The goal behind presenting the V2V curriculum at high schools is to inspire, educate and involve younger donors who will become committed advocates for blood donation.Responsibilities
The Community Educator will work with the cross-departmental team charged with development and oversight of this new project. This team includes leaders from our medical, community engagement and volunteer management groups. Some of the requirements and tasks include:
- Full understanding of the V2V curriculum and individual modules
- Provide feedback to all stakeholders about the project and curriculum
- Meet with all team members routinely to assess progress and goals
- Proficient in the understanding of blood collection and donation as a critical community need
- Creative in the delivery and options within the curriculum that can be modified to meet a targeted audience
- Participate in the delivery of the Bloodworks V2V program using a variety of delivery methods (virtual, in-person)
Qualifications
- Experience presenting topics related to public health, medical and/or blood collection or as an educator
- Ability to present to a diverse audience and make adaptions to meet specific needs of the group
- Ability to manage scheduling commitments, communicate with all relevant parties and represent Bloodworks in a professional manner
- Public speaking experience (highly desired)
- Ability to read, write, speak and comprehend English.
- Ability to deliver program material via Zoom as well as in-person at school and community group locations.

Your Community Resource For Lifesaving Blood-With the help of a 250,000 registered donors in the region, Bloodworks NW collects about 900 units of blood each day. All blood receives immediate, comprehensive testing so that it can be available to 90 regional hospitals - usually in less than 24 hours after donation. We operate 11 donor centers and our mobile units travel to hundreds of blood drives every month at work sites, schools, churches, and other community locations throughout Western Washington.
