ORGANIZATION: Alzheimers Association- CA Southland

TLD

Can you spare a few hours a month to help #ENDALZ? Have fun and help plan and grow The Longest Day - the Alzheimer's Association's fastest-growing event, across Southern California. Are you a leader in your town, company, or club? Do you love to play a racquet sport, golf, paddle, or hike? Are you a social media pro? Turn your passion to #ENDALZ into purpose. A little of your time can go a long way!

The volunteer's role for TLD includes all or some of the following: attending monthly committee meetings (virtual), making phone calls to participants, writing thank you cards, reaching out to your network and making connections, assisting with marketing of events, participating on the TLD social media pages, fundraising, etc. Your Alzheimer's Association staff partner supports you throughout the program and is very flexible and happy to tailor your volunteer experience around your interests and schedule.

Ideal volunteers would have some of these traits: Enjoy connecting with people, are passionate about ending Alzheimer's, be enthusiastic, creative, comfortable talking on the phone, and have a willingness to participate in or co-host events.

Monthly commitment: Approximately 3-5 hours per month. This will vary depending on the month, and as mentioned above, our staff partner is very flexible with what works for you. While TLD is on June 21st, we like working with volunteers year-round.

See how you can help. Email rkschall@alz.org. For more information on The Longest Day visit alz.org/tld.

Mission Statement

To eliminate Alzheimer's disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health

Description

In 1979, Jerome H. Stone and representatives from several family support groups met with the National Institute on Aging to explore the value of a national, independent, nonprofit organization to complement federal efforts surrounding Alzheimer's disease. That meeting resulted in the April 10, 1980, formation of the Alzheimer's Association with Mr. Stone as founding president.

Today, the Association reaches millions of people affected by Alzheimer’s across the globe through our national office and chapters in communities nationwide. We are the world’s leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer’s care, support and research.
