Recruiting Organization: Charleston Area Service Collaborative
VISTA members with the Charleston Area Service Collaborative (CASC) serve with a peer group of 19 members placed at organizations throughout the Charleston community. Each VISTA member will have their own project to work on, building capacity for a single organization during their service year! Examples are helping individuals overcome homelessness, mentoring, financial empowerment, and increasing access to resources. We offer members the opportunity to build and use their professional development skills and mentor each member during the year to help them make their next step beyond their service year. The CASC also offers professional development training and network opportunities throughout the service year. For more information on project sites, visit https://sites.google.com/view/cascvista/home
Member Duties: The AmeriCorps VISTA members serving with our project will work at their individual sites to build capacity by ensuring that the organization has effective systems in place- be that a system for fundraising, managing volunteers, engaging partners, etc. The members play a vital role in taking the work to the next level, leaving behind the procedures needed for the site to own the work after the VISTA member service year is complete. Many members will engage in outreach and social media efforts that will build and strengthen the recognition of their organization in the community so that residents know where to go to access the services they need. Focusing specifically on communities and individuals in need, VISTA members will be invaluable in helping the Charleston community thrive.
