The City of Fort Collins is looking for volunteers for our annual Bicyclist and Pedestrian Count this September. This is an exciting opportunity to generate the data needed to prioritize future improvements for those who walk and ride bikes in our community. This project supports our community's commitment to making active transportation a viable transportation option for our growing city.

This year’s counts are Tuesday, Sept 20 and Saturday, Sept 24. We are looking for volunteers to fill a variety of 2-hour shifts at several different intersections and trail locations throughout Fort Collins. We have a.m, noon, and p.m. options available. You may have to sign into your Engage account to see details. If you are a new volunteer you may have to create an Engage account to see details.

Volunteers are more than welcome to work more than one 2-hour shift if they'd like! We are also asking volunteers to view an online training video prior to their shift -- this training will provide important details and instructions to make sure you are safe, comfortable and confident with your counting shift. Count forms and other information will be sent by email and can be mailed if needed.

Please contact Lauren Nagle with any questions: lnagle@fcgov.com.

Volunteers who complete the counts will also get a chance to receive one of many Downtown Business Association gift cards and other prizes!

Mission Statement

The FC Bikes program encourages bicycling as a viable and healthy means of transportation for Fort Collins' residents, employees and visitors of all ages and abilities. Through advocacy, programming and planning, the FC Bikes program seeks to increase bicycling while creating and maintaining a bicycle-friendly community atmosphere.

Description

Fort Collins has been designated, by the League of American Bicyclists, a Bicycle Friendly Community since 2003. In the spring of 2013, the city received a Platinum designation, joining the ranks of only 3 other communities in the U.S.: Boulder, CO, Davis, CA, and Portland, OR. In 2017, Fort Collins was re-designated as a Platinum Bicycle Friendly Community.

In late 2012, the League raised the bar for the Bicycle Friendly America program and created a Diamond level designation in an effort to create communities that can compete on an international level. Moving forward, the FC Bikes program seeks to improve cycling in Fort Collins for people of all ages and abilities through education, encouragement, enforcement, engineering and evaluation efforts in order to earn the Diamond designation!
