ORGANIZATION: National MS Society - Florida

PR Internship Available

The National MS Society is seeking a PR intern for our two signature leadership fundraising events in the south Florida chapter: The Orange Blossom Evening is a live auction-dinner-concert in Naples, Florida on December 3 and The MS Gala is gala luncheon hosting 1000 attendees with a silent auction and honoree presentation at Boca West Country Club on January 20. The two events will raise more than $750,000 for the Society’s research and programs.

Both events present unique opportunities to solicit press for the event and the MS movement and the successful intern will gain experience in story placement, writing press releases, media interviews and fundraising strategy.

The intern specifically will:

  • Have understanding and utilize Society PR templates, materials and style guides
  • Identify media promotional opportunities for assigned event and provide accurate Society, MS and event information and field inquiries
  • Identify compelling stories and media opportunities that align with Society goals.
  • Proactively pitch to media, Coordinate opportunities with key constituents and Society spokespeople.
  • Ensure accurate Society information is provided to media to create understanding of the Society’s investment, leadership and impact.

It is expected that the intern will work on average of 15 hours each week and is voluntary (unpaid). Student will be provided with College Credit and must be enrolled in a college or university at the time of application. Fully remote, but there are ample opportunities to work in the office (FLL) if desired. The position will report to the President of the Chapter, Robin Nunley, CFRE. The National Multiple Sclerosis Society funds more MS research, offers more services to people with MS, provides more professional education programs and advances more MS advocacy efforts than any other MS organization in the world. Through its home office and fifty-state network of chapters, the National MS Society provides assistance to over a million people annually in its continuing mission to end the devastating effects of multiple sclerosis.

Seeking out and engaging volunteers to the MS cause is at the very core of our business. Each year the Society organizes a series of community events that provide many opportunities for the enthusiastic volunteer. The Society offers three key fundraising activities: The MS Bike Tour, MS Walk and MS Challenge Walk. The Society also engages volunteers to help influence law-makers at the federal, state and municipal levels toward legislation important to people with MS. The Society is looking for passionate volunteers with expertise in areas such as: marketing communications, public relations, corporate and donor development, medical, legal, administrative and organizational expertise.
