Patient Liaison Volunteers at Westwood Cancer Center assist with the following tasks:

    1. Essential Duties:

      1. Stock beverage cart with items such as cups, straws, stir sticks, coffee, condiments for coffee, juice, soda, and water from Volunteer Office.
      2. Be sure that beverage cart stays cleaned and sanitized.
      3. If ice is used on cart - obtain from café from back kitchen area. All volunteers must wear a hair net when entering the back-kitchen area.
      4. If coffee not made or needs replenishing - make coffee for carafe in Volunteer Office.
      5. Notify Information Desk Associate Lead of any needed items for kits to be ordered.
      6. At end of each drink run/round - restock refrigerator with more juice, soda, and/or water.
      7. Drink run/rounds are to the first and second floor exam and waiting rooms at 9:00, 11:00, 1:00 and 3:00.
      8. In the 3 rd floor treatment area during lunch - sacked lunches, drinks, and snacks are distributed using the cart and supplies in the 3 rd floor kitchen area.
      9. Offer lunches to all patients who are in the treatment area. Only patients are allowed to receive a lunch unless directed otherwise by nursing.
      10. Any visitor or companion with the patient may have a drink and/or snack in the treatment area - but not a lunch.
      11. Respect patient’s and/or companion’s wishes if they do not want something to eat or drink, or if they do not want to talk, interact or be disturbed.
      12. When done with lunch rounds, replace items back in stock or in the refrigerator in the 3 rd floor kitchen area. If time permits, restock drink items in the refrigerator if supply is low.
      13. When appropriate, support a patient and/or family/companion/caregiver by listening or talking with them but only if they desire to talk.
      14. Refer all patient or other complaints to a staff person.
      15. During or between drink rounds - restock blanket warmers.
      16. When time permits between drink rounds - put together various kits/packets from stock in the Volunteer Office.
      17. As time permits, review and prepare donated magazines and books for placement in the open book carts and magazine racks.
