Seeking Volunteers
We're looking for help with event planning and fundraising for our agency events throughout the year. Each year we run four events to support our programs and the youth we serve. We are currently seeking help with the planning and implementation of them.
About Us
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Rochester is a nonprofit organization that serves area youth through a variety of mentoring programs in our local communities, schools, and in the workplace. Our Bigs (adult mentors) develop positive relationships with their Littles (youth mentees), which create lifelong memories and lasting impacts on each of our matches.
Upcoming Events
- Bowling at Radio Social (October 29)
- Cornhole at various colleges (December and beyond)
- Big Night Out Gala (February/March)
- Golf Tournament (August)
The committee will help with:
- developing the framework of each event
- community outreach for promotional purposes and to garner interest in event
- interaction with our matches (Bigs and Littles) to promote & help with event
- soliciting businesses for donation and sponsorships
- collecting raffle prizes
- PR, marketing, advertising and social media efforts
- running the events
Commitment
Meetings will be held once or twice a month (likely one virtual and one in-person) for one hour. More meetings may be needed as we get closer to each event, but will be determined by the committee. Day-of event help is also needed, based on volunteer availability.

Description
Go big.
We’re always looking for people eager to positively impact a child and improve their community at the same time. And, right now is no different. Big Brothers are in high demand. So, Start Something.
For a few hours, a couple times a month, you can give a Little the invaluable gift of your friendship. By simply changing their perspective of what the world can offer, you can literally start changing their lives. And sometimes it’s as simple as playing video games, going to a museum, or just hanging out together.
Why do we need Big Brothers?
More than 70% of our children waiting for a Big are boys, but only 3 out of every 10 inquiries to volunteer come from men. Research shows that having the positive influence of a Big Brother makes a real difference in a boy's life. So join the hundreds of thousands of volunteers that give a young person someone to look up to. And learn why so many are now saying, "I get back so much more than I give."
A call to men of color.
Disproportionately the children we serve and those waiting to be matched are African-American and Hispanic boys. Their parents seek our support, knowing a Big Brother can recognize their son's potential and model positive choices that put him on the path for success in and out of school.
But don’t just take it from us. Check out some Real Life Stories of Bigs & Littles right here. And if you still have questions, head over to our Big Brother FAQs for more answers.
Ready to be a Big Brother? Just fill out our simple online application. After you complete it, a Big Brothers Big Sisters staff member will contact you shortly.
