ORGANIZATION: Idealist.org

Recruiting Organization: EduMais

Over 120 people have volunteered each to impact the lives of our students. Isn't it about time you volunteered?

You think you cannot teach? Or you don't have experience or not enough? You have doubts how to maintain a good classroom environment to create impactful learning? Or you think the favelas are too dangerous?

Now you probably expect me to tell you that I got it right the first time. No, I and we didn't. Not the first years at least but we are now 6 years further and we've developed a way of classroom management and teaching techniques that work very well. Of course you probably want me to say that favelas are too dangerous? The might be, but luckily we are very well located away from the conflicts that might sometimes occur.

What's unique about our volunteer experience are the rules how to teach, how to connect, how to hold the space. Our way is different. It's easy to learn, to apply and to make a lasting impact. On top of it you'll develop leadership skills for life and making a real impact. Furthermore, we have a safety and security protocol, and we are always on top of what is happening in the communities.

Our lessons are designed to not only teach English but as well how to teach. Our concept is unique. There is nothing like it in text books. Text books teach you insight but now how to apply those insights. Remember, we teach you how to apply those.

The emphasis is on helping our students to develop social and emotional skills through ESL classes.
