ORGANIZATION: American Red Cross

Help us Sound the Alarm about fire safety!

On September 24th, FROM 9 AM - 3 PM, the American Red Cross will team up with fire departments, volunteers, and partners to Sound the Alarm with home fire safety and free smoke alarm installations in Calistoga!

Volunteers are needed for the Sound the Alarm. Save A Life event! We work in teams to install free smoke alarms, and review fire safety information with local residents.

All training is provided.

The teams are comprised of three people with the following jobs descriptions:

Trainer: Provides information about the smoke alarms, how and when to test, and goes over an escape route and safety instructions (like making a go-bag) in case of a home fire.

Installer: Installs smoke alarms in designated locations in the home. May test smoke existing smoke alarms to determine if functioning and determine if replacement is necessary.

Documenter: Fills out the service acknowledgement form and notes any need for follow-up. This person should be comfortable completing basic paperwork.

There is a brief training prior to the teams going into the neighborhood that lasts 20-30 minutes. Volunteers do not need any special training, although it is helpful if the installer is handy with a screw gun.

The day is meant to be a cooperative event where we come together to make people safer in their homes. Coffee and donuts are provided in the morning and lunch around 1pm (provided by the Salvation Army). Red Cross T-shirts also provided.

To sign-up can contact Leland Montell leland.montell@redcross.org, (707) 210-2044
