Campground hosts are the public face of the Forest Service and represent the agency for all visitors. Host positions are necessary to ensure visitors have an enjoyable time by making sure facilities are clean and in good condition, to provide a friendly face, and information for visitors during their stay.


Hurricane Campground is a small, 27- site campground located near 400 miles of trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding, as well as numerous fishing, hunting, and wildlife viewing areas. The campground is located at 2021 Hurricane Camp Rd, Sugar Grove, VA, 15 miles from the town of Marion and about 5 miles from Sugar Grove, Virginia. Hurricane Campground has the remote setting, without being too far from town. The campground is open from mid-April thru late-October.


Hurricane and Comers creeks pass through the campground and surrounding areas allowing for wading and trout fishing. Additional fishing options and excellent hunting opportunities are available near the campground. State fishing and hunting regulations and licensing requirements apply. Hurricane Knob Nature Trail offers a brisk 1-mile loop hike and there is easy access to the Appalachian Trail within ½ mile. The Virginia Creeper Trail is located a short drive away. The entire campground has a relaxing, rustic atmosphere and an open field allows for games and family fun.


Full hookups are available for host sites but the hosts must proved their own living quarters; e.g. trailer or RV.

Hurricane campground has NO Cell service and NO Wi-Fi Service.

Hosts should be at the campground 4-5 days per week, including weekends and holidays.

Hosts may be called upon 24 hours a day.

Days off will be scheduled for weekdays, usually Monday, Tuesday, and/or Wednesday


Host(s) will represent the Forest Service in public contacts, providing information and directions, and reporting vandalism and other problems to Forest Service personnel. A golf cart, all necessary tools, and cleaning supplies, safety equipment, will be provided by the Forest Service. Campground host training and orientation will also be provided by the Forest Service.
