Friends from Meals on Wheels is a friendly caller program aimed at decreasing social isolation and loneliness in homebound seniors. It targets low-income seniors who are 75 years of age or older, live alone, and/or are people of color. Our volunteers provide weekly phone calls to one or more assigned clients. Calls follow suggested guidelines and can also include providing clients with needed resources. This is a rewarding opportunity to build relationships with our senior community members who need a friend.

Friends from Meals on Wheels Friendly Caller- Call homebound older adults receiving Meals on Wheels. Requirements: 18+, online application, onboarding forms, orientation, and training. Commitment: 1 hour/week for a minimum of 6 months and quarterly meetings with program staff. We are looking for Japanese-speaking individuals.

Mission Statement

Our Mission: To build health equity in the Silicon Valley.

Description

Our Vision:

The Health Trust believes every Silicon Valley resident should have the opportunity to live a healthy life.

How:

We at The Health Trust believe that if Silicon Valley is a community where innovation is changing the world, then it also can be a community where innovation changes the lives of everyone - especially our most vulnerable residents - for the better.

As we strive to make our vision reality, we reflect the values of Silicon Valley. When we tackle a problem, we take the broad view. We rely on expertise, partnerships and best practices to generate solutions that will have the greatest impact on those we serve. We invest in projects that are sustainable, show measurable results and provide the greatest return on investment for the community.

With a strong emphasis on prevention, we focus our work through three initiatives: Healthy Living, Healthy Aging and Healthy Communities. Through direct services, we are helping one person at a time. And through policy advocacy and grantmaking, we are changing the local environment to promote healthy eating, healthy aging and healthy living.
