This volunteer from home role helps families by phone to provide information and resources to help them plan for long-term recovery after experiencing a home fire. We know the first 72 hours after a disaster is the most critical time to help families on the road to recovery.

Who Is right for this volunteer role?

  • You care and can be empathetic and calm during a traumatic time for the client
  • Ability to handle the emotions that often come out when a client is dealing with loss (sadness, anger, lethargy, confusion) without it adversely affecting you or your ability to help.
  • Has a willingness to learn and is a good problem solver
  • Has excellent verbal and listening skills, and patience
  • Can communicate effectively through text and email
  • Moderate computer skills
  • ​Minimum required time: 4-6 hours/week
    Participate in a minimum of one group meeting (1 hour) within each calendar quarter

Training

Training involves 4-6 hours of online coursework and 3 hours of Regional Recovery Team onboarding that will also occur virtually on Microsoft Teams, including shadowing an experienced volunteer.
