Lenox Hill Neighborhood House, widely recognized as one of New York’s premier human services providers, is a 129-year-old settlement house that provides an extensive array of effective and integrated services which significantly improve the lives of 16,000 people in need each year on the East Side of Manhattan. We run two dynamic Senior Centers located at 343 East 70th Street and 619 Lexington Avenue that serve thousands of older adults who enjoy a full range of educational, recreational, social and health and wellness activities, as well as wonderful meals prepared by our Food Services team. This position takes originates at our Older Adult Center at 343 East 70th Street.

Community Companion Volunteers will provide safe and socially assisted accompaniment for Lenox Hill Neighborhood House Older Adult Center members to destinations in their community, including but not limited to, errands and appointments. Neighborhood House Older Adult Center members being escorted by volunteers are unable to travel independently due to mobility, vision, hearing, or cognitive impairments.

Description

Lenox Hill Neighborhood House was founded in 1894 by the Alumnae Association of Normal College (now known as Hunter College of the City University of New York) as a free kindergarten for the children of indigent immigrants. Since then, we have remained at the forefront of community advocacy and social and educational change.

  • Must be at least 18
  • Able to commit to volunteering at least one day per week for at least two hours, 4 days per month for a minimum of six months
  • Reliably and consistently attend and arrive on time to assigned matches; able to stand and walk independently for long periods of time, if necessary; able to hold at least 10 pounds but no more than 15 pounds of items if necessary and/or applicable
