SoulPhamm is looking for committed coaches with a sense of humor to help coach our step team, which serves youth ages 11 to 16. You will work alongside an experienced step team coach.
Practice will be on Saturdays from 1pm to 4pm starting in October and running until June 22, 2024. We are located at the YMCA in downtown Newark (near NJPAC). We anticipate that performance and competitive opportunities will also be held on Saturdays.
Coaches do not have to have any coaching experience, however, prior experience as a stepper on a school, church, community or fraternal team is required.
The coach should be able to choreograph and teach new routines and learn routines from the other coach and be able to teach those steps to the team. Coaches with hip-hop dance experience are also welcomed to apply.

SoulPhamm was incorporated as a nonprofit organization in the state of New Jersey on June 25, 2021 and is the "birth-child" of Coach Luis ("Lou") and Dr. Leisa Herrera ("Mz. Doc"). The organization exists to provide training to young people in a variety of sports and performing arts and unique opportunities to display those talents through competition and performance. By integrating mentoring, life skills, opportunities for community service and academic enrichment to the athletic/artistic program, we help make our scholar-athletes as well-rounded as possible, capable of meeting and overcoming any challenges they are faced with. Although Coach Lou passed away suddenly in January 2021, the official launch of SoulPhamm was held on June 26, 2021, which coincided with his birthday weekend. SoulPhamm will recognize its own founding, as well as the achievements of our young people every year on the fourth Saturday of June, as a tribute to the life and legacy of Coach Lou.
