Mission Statement

The Sirovich Center for Balanced Living is a center for older adults, a hub of recreational, social, cultural, educational, and health activities and host of a welcoming community based in NYC's East Village. We strive to provide a diverse range of programming, such as serving daily meals, leveled exercise classes, topical workshops, health screenings, and a wide variety of arts classes. In busy older adult centers such as ours, there is always plenty to do, and sharing your time and support is one of the greatest gifts you can give to our community! Feel free to reach out if you're interested in volunteering- we're always happy to have helping hands, build community connections, and embolden your unique skills and ideas!

Description

For over 130 years, Educational Alliance has remained a constant for the residents of Lower Manhattan in the ever-evolving city of New York. The Sirovich Center is part of our Older Adult Services (OAS) division, a comprehensive services model that supports and advances the healthy aging of nearly 10,000 older New Yorkers annually. Our OAS locations also include the Weinberg Center for Balanced Living, Project ORE, and Co-Op Village NORC (Naturally Occurring Retirement Communities). The Sirovich Center for Balanced Living of Educational Alliance is the second-oldest center of its kind in New York City.

The William I. Sirovich Memorial Association was founded in April 1947 by the Sirovich family "to provide a center for the older person where [they] can find companionship, and an opportunity for continuing [their] life-long interests and for developing new ones." Since its conception more than 75 years ago, Sirovich Center has implemented various arts, education, nutrition, and health programming with the aim of furthering Dr. Sirovich’s mission to improve the lives of older adults living and working in New York City.
