Tiny Stitches’ Layettes for Indigent Newborns Program clothes as many infants born into financially disadvantaged circumstances as possible to help reduce the overall infant mortality rate in Georgia. Newborns of many families in northeast Georgia living below the poverty level are leaving the hospital dressed only in a T-shirt and diaper. Survival is the most basic need for these babies, and we feel the clothing we provide allows them to have a much better chance to live and thrive.

All layette items are handmade, whether sewn, quilted, knitted, or crocheted, by our 200+ volunteers in workshops located in Metro Atlanta (Gwinnett and Fulton Counties, which represent about 50% of the total deliveries) and in ten other counties in north Georgia. During these workshops, new volunteers are trained to sew the individual items in each layette, as well as taught to knit and crochet. Experienced volunteers work on projects or cut patterns and fabric that are distributed to volunteers working at home.

Mission Statement

Tiny Stitches, Inc. is an all-volunteer 501 (c) (3) organization dedicated to helping indigent newborns in North Georgia get a healthy start in life by providing them with a handmade layette containing enough clothing and blankets to keep them warm and dry for the first three months of life. Newborns of many families in northeast Georgia living below the poverty level are leaving the hospital dressed only in a T-shirt and diaper. Survival is the most basic need for these babies, and we feel the clothing we provide allows them to have a much better chance to live and thrive.

Description

Volunteers are asked only to give their time and use their skills to create clothing, bedding, and care items for these special newborns in need. These items are packed in large, hand-sewn totes. Each tote is filled with 30 to 33 layette items. Tiny Stitches provides our volunteers with all materials, supplies, and patterns to ensure that all newborn recipients of a layette receive the same items of clothing and bedding, and that each item is consistently crafted in the highest quality.
