Korean War Veterans Memorial Volunteer

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: National Park Service

Nineteen larger-than-life stainless steel statues emerge from the trees, silently standing under the watchful eyes of a sea of faces on a granite wall to the south. The Korean War Veterans Memorial stands on the south side of the Lincoln Memorial, a reminder of the human cost of freedom. It is our nation’s expression of gratitude to those who restored freedom to South Korea.

Korean War Memorial volunteers provide visitors insight into an often-forgotten conflict. A wall behind the pool at the east end of the Memorial contains the inscription "Freedom is not Free." Volunteers help visitors understand how all of the elements of the Memorial bear witness to the patriotism, devotion to duty, and courage of Korean War veterans.

The mission of National Mall and Memorial Parks is to manage, preserve, and maintain the monuments, memorials, and historic sites in the heart of Washington, D.C., and to provide opportunities for all Americans and park visitors to understand and be inspired by their significance. You can help advance this mission by volunteering in the park. Volunteers interact with visitors and assist Park Rangers in answering questions, giving talks, and leading tours of the monuments and memorials. Come join in the fun!
