As am ODHS Volunteer Driver, you donate your time, use of your vehicle and experience to help families involved with the Child Welfare Program.

Volunteer Drivers transport children in foster care (sometimes a parent or relative) to/ from visitations, case planned activities or other appointments.

Volunteer Drivers provide a comfortable atmosphere and a safe ride. Rides may be ongoing or one-time only. Rides are in town or from outlying rural areas into the Eugene/Springfield area, Salem or Portland.

Volunteer Drivers are eligible to receive reimbursement for mileage and meals for longer trips out of the driver's home area.

The Volunteer Program in Lane County has placements for volunteers in the Volunteer, Child Welfare, Self Sufficiency and Vocational Rehabilitation programs.


Volunteers are an integral part of the Department of Human Services. There is a broad range of volunteer opportunities that help serve DHS clients and staff. Volunteers are recruited and placed in jobs that help to meet community and DHS customer needs. Volunteers provide personalized ways to help DHS clients, staff, offices, and communities in a wide variety of ways.

Lane County DHS has 7 branches that include different configurations of Child Welfare, Self Sufficiency and Vocational Rehabilitation Programs. Opportunities vary per branch.
