Volunteer Roles & Responsibilities: pack dry goods, produce, frozen meat and hygiene products in grocery bags for our APLA Health clients. By donating a few hours of your time, you are vital in helping us distribute groceries to clients in the Los Angeles area.
Requirements:
- The desire to help improve the quality of life of low-income people with HIV
- Enjoy working in a warehouse environment
- Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality and professionalism
- Outgoing personality, excellent communication skills
- Proof of COVID full vaccination. A person is fully vaccinated when they have received their booster dose or they received their initial vaccine series but are not yet eligible for their booster.
- Wear an approved face covering, as recommended by Los Angeles County Department of Public health
- Court Ordered Community Service hours available.
Impact: APLA Health’s Vance North Necessities of Life Program (NOLP) started as a food voucher program in 1986 and has since become the nation’s largest network of food pantries for people with HIV/AIDS. It is currently operating out of eight locations throughout Los Angeles County. Clients of NOLP receive pre-bagged groceries that include fresh dairy, frozen meats, fresh produce, and an assortment of canned and dry goods, as well as hygiene items and cleaning supplies. NOLP clients also receive bilingual, one-on-one nutritional counseling and nutrition classes. NOLP provides groceries to over 1,700 clients who live on a limited income.
Covid-19 Requirements:
On August 5, 2021, the State of California Department of Public Health issued a vaccine requirement for all workers in healthcare facilities. This requirement applies to all employees and volunteers at APLA Health & Wellness.
In response, we are requiring that all volunteers provide proof of vaccination before your volunteer day by emailing a copy to Avelasco@apla.org and bring proof with you day of event to verify with on-site staff. Those without a vaccine card will not be permitted to volunteer. Thank you for your cooperation.

Mission Statement
The Vance North Necessities of Life Program (NOLP) provides groceries to over 1,700 clients who live on a limited income. Clients are able to access the food bank weekly, and take home five bags of groceries per visit. They receive a wide variety of predetermined items that include fresh dairy, frozen meats, fresh produce, and an assortment of canned and dry goods that cover 100% of weekly meals as well as hygiene items and cleaning supplies.

Begun as a $35-a-week food voucher program in 1986, APLA Health’s Vance North Necessities of Life Program (NOLP) has since become the nation’s largest network of food pantries for people with HIV/AIDS, currently operating out of 13 locations throughout Los Angeles County.
Clients at our NOLP food pantries receive pre-bagged groceries that include fresh dairy, frozen meats, fresh produce, and an assortment of canned and dry goods that cover 100% of weekly meals as well as hygiene items and cleaning supplies.
