Would you like to empower refugees and immigrants in our community?
Asian Pacific Development Center (APDC) is inviting volunteers to assist with upcoming citizenship workshops and civic events.
Important: Volunteers must attend a two (2) hour training to participate in citizenship and post-workshops, due to the legal nature of the event. Must be 18 years old to apply.
We have a few opportunities to serve our refugee and immigrant neighbors in these capacities:
Constitution Day - (date varies year to year) 12:00 PM - 7:00 PM at APDC
Constitution Day is an American federal observance that recognizes the adoption of the United States Constitution and those who have become U.S. citizens. APDC volunteers will celebrate Constitution Day with our families by facilitating games, educational activities and snacks. This is an in person event.
Quarterly Citizenship Workshops (Dates provided upon inquiry) that run from 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM at APDC on a Saturday.
At our citizenship workshops, volunteers greet and screen applicants, prepare the Application for Naturalization (N-400), and assist with completing the Request for Fee Waiver (I-912). Attorneys and DOJ Representatives are on site to review applications and check for errors. This is an in person event.
Post-Naturalization Workshop: 12:00 PM - 7:00 PM on dates to be provided upon inquiry
After obtaining citizenship, new citizens need to do things like apply for passports, register to vote and assist their minor children in obtaining their Certificate of Citizenship (N-600). We invite volunteers to assist with these applications and other support roles like greeting and screening that make this event possible.
