The Tobacco Free Youth Ambassador Program (TFYAP) will run from September 2023 through June 2024; however, we're active year-round, so don't hesitate to reach out. The TFYAP is a statewide movement of youth and young adults, ages 12-21, committed to advocating, educating, mobilizing, and preventing tobacco and nicotine use in Rhode Island. By becoming an Ambassador, you'll have the opportunity to network with youth from across Rhode Island and beyond; and engage in workshops, trainings, and other opportunities throughout the year that will better your leadership skills and understanding of tobacco, vaping, and all its related topics. Meetings, events, and opportunities will occur virtually and in-person at various locations around the state so everyone can participate. For more information about the program or to apply, visit http://tobaccofree-ri.org/youth-program.htm

"Gets"
Ambassadors will have the opportunity to: receive stipends and/or community service hours based on participation; make a positive impact in their community and state; gain leadership skills, knowledge, and connections; and meet like-minded youth from all over to establish long-lasting relationships and memories with.

"Gives"
Ambassador expectations are as follows: attend and participate in meetings, tasks, activities, and events; provide input when program planning; continuously spread tobacco prevention and education awareness;
recruit youth from across the state to help build the tobacco-free movement; be a leader that others look up to; always be open to learning and working with people from different communities, cultures, and backgrounds.

About American Lung Association - Tobacco Free Rhode Island

Location:

260 West Exchange Street, Suite 102B, Providence, RI 02903, US

Mission Statement

A statewide network of organizations and individuals fighting to reduce tobacco and nicotine use, the leading cause of preventable death and disease in Rhode Island.

Description

Tobacco Free Rhode Island (TFRI) is a central coordinator for people and organizations working on tobacco control in Rhode island. We facilitate communication, share information, and provide resources and action strategies for people and organizations trying to create policy change. TFRI is a vital source of advice and technical assistance for our network partners, sharing best practices, convening meetings and training sessions, and helping members collaborate more effectively around common goals and policy change strategies.

The TFRI Youth Program is a statewide movement of youth and young adults. The Program will run from September through June. It consists of the following engagement levels: The TFRI Youth Network (all ages), The Tobacco-Free Ambassador Program (ages 12-21), and The Tobacco-Free Ambassador Leadership Team (ages 12-21).

The youth and young adults in our program are committed to advocating, educating, mobilizing, and preventing tobacco and nicotine use in Rhode Island. They are able to engage in workshops, trainings, and other opportunities throughout the year that will better their understanding of tobacco, nicotine, and related topics. Youth may have opportunities to participate in national, state, and local events. TFRI puts both learning and fun equally at the forefront of everything we do and hopes each youth spends a year not only learning about tobacco and nicotine, but about their state, peers, and themselves.
