Backman Elementary School is seeking volunteers interested in participating in a structured reading tutorial program (DYAD Reading) that provides achievement gains for students needing extra reading practice and instruction beyond what they receive in their regular classroom. The appropriate training and lesson plans will be provided. We are looking for volunteers that are able to commit to a full school year of service, with at least two hours of volunteering each week. Each volunteer must meet all volunteer requirements of the school district. Volunteers will be provided lesson plans to follow and will be responsible for documenting each lesson and keeping accurate records of all tutoring sessions in order to report back to the DYAD reading coordinator. Volunteering for this program can range from 30-minute reading sessions with students to playing high frequency word games with students to doing fluency tests with students.

Mission Statement
We are looking for outgoing and dependable volunteers willing to provide primary grade students reading below grade level with additional reading practice. Volunteers will be provided the required training and targeted lesson plans needed to be able to help students tackle difficult texts. Volunteers must be able to commit to volunteering at least two hours each week, for one school year and be able to meet all the volunteer requirements of the school district.
