Position Summary:
Hayward Unified School District is currently seeking Volunteers to assist with our on-site food distribution program. The Food Distribution Volunteer works closely with staff and other volunteers to help sort groceries and produce, assemble grocery bags, package produce and distribute bagged food to our community. Volunteers must commit to following HUSD Safety & Social Distancing Protocols.
Upon arrival, check in with the Food Pantry for instructions. Volunteers are required to wear masks and gloves, remain socially distant and follow safety and hygiene protocols.
Primary Duties:
- Sort, bag, and distribute food to the community
- Disinfect work station before and after each shift
- Light janitorial tasks at the end of each shift as needed
Abilities and Attributes:
- Commitment to following food safety guidelines.
- Reliability, punctuality, accountability.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Able to lift and carry up to 40 pounds.
- Able to stand, lift and bend
Time Requirement and Schedule:
Grocery and Produce bagging: 1st & 3rd Thursday (1-4pm)
Distribution to community: 1st & 3rd Thursday (3:30 -6:30pm)
Total time requirement: Volunteers must commit to a minimum of one complete shift.

The Mission of the Cherryland Elementary School's Food Distribution Program is to passionately pursue a hunger-free community. We envision a future in which the children, adults and seniors of Hayward do not worry about where their next meal is coming from. Our goal is to provide food and nutrition education to those in need within the community. The Food Distribution program is one initiative to help alleviate hunger and strengthen individuals and families living in Hayward and surrounding areas. In partnership with the Alameda County Food Bank, and local volunteers, we are able to make a difference in our community.
