The Kalamazoo Literacy Council has an immediate need for one on one reading tutors and classroom teachers. We have a flexible schedule and serve native English speakers and English Language Learners. No experience is needed; we provide free online training, curriculum, and ongoing support. The next session of online tutor training is September 8-22.   • 09:00 AM to 12:30 PM
    We have in person morning classes at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church and the Reading Center at Goodwill.
  • evening / 06:30 PM to 08:00 PM
    We have online evening Computer class and in-person evening ESL classes at El Concilio

Description

The Kalamazoo Literacy Council (KLC) is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit volunteer tutor organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of adults who struggle to read. The Kalamazoo Literacy Council offers free one-on-one programs designed to develop reading, writing and spelling skills. Our goal is to also educate the public about the crisis of illiteracy and bring together a community with a common goal of making Kalamazoo County 100 percent literate. The KLC is the only organization in Kalamazoo County exclusively providing free basic literacy instruction to adults.

We serve native English speakers and English Language Learners with tutoring and classes in Parent Literacy, Health Literacy, Citizenship, Writing, Computers, and more. Volunteer roles include reading tutor, classroom instructors, and classroom assistants. No experience is necessary; we provide online training, all curriculum and ongoing support. Volunteer in person or online. This is an exciting opportunity to help change the lives of adults in the community!
