Description of Joyce:

Joyce Uptown Foodshelf (JUFS) is a people centered, no questions asked food shelf in the heart of Uptown Minneapolis. Since 1969 JUFS has provided food for those in need throughout the South Minneapolis community. With a budget of $300,000 and 5 staff (3 FTEs), JUFS serves over 600 households with 55,000 pounds of food each month.

Responsibilities:

As board treasurer you will be an active and key member of the Joyce Uptown Foodshelf Board of Directors with responsibility for monitoring JUFS budget and helping guide JUFS finances and financial planning. This board member will work closely with Joyce Uptown Foodshelf staff, admin, and director who are responsible for day-to-day accounting and finances.

Financial Guidance:

  • Apprise the JUFS board of key financial events, trends, and concerns, and their assessments of the organization’s fiscal health.
  • Advise on the organization’s financial position.
  • Assist with compliance of state and federal registration and reporting obligations.

Financial Planning:

  • Lead the preparation of the annual budget.
  • Oversee the development of the organization’s financial policies.
  • Coordinate with the Director and Administrator on any operational changes to ensure the organization’s financial health.

Board Member:

  • Commit to a 3 year board term.
  • Attendance of board meetings (10/year).
  • Chair of finance committee.
  • Assistance with board development.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Interest in nonprofit governance, food insecurity, and the mission of JUFS.
  • Proficiency with MS Excel, general ledger reports, and financial management tools.
  • Experience with GAAP and fund accounting principles, practices and regulations.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

Desired Qualifications:

  • BA/BS in Accounting, Master’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration, CPA, or other relevant experience.
  • Experience in financial management, preferably not-for-profit or small business.
  • Experience with QuickBooks Online
  • Board experience
