  • 4 people are interested

Tax preparers on the Prepare + Prosper volunteer team work one-on-one with customers to prepare their tax return and get them their maximum refund. Tax preparers also encourage customers to talk money and savings with a customer support volunteer. As a tax preparer, you will:

  • Prepare state and federal tax returns using TaxSlayer
  • Ask customers if they’d like to save some of their refund
  • Direct customers work with the customer support volunteer to talk about saving and money
  • Provide stellar customer service and maintain privacy

How do I know I am a good fit? Volunteer tax preparers should have knowledge of basic income tax preparation and meet one of the following: have filed your own tax return, taken a tax law or income tax accounting course at the college level, or work in the accounting field. Additionally, volunteers should have the ability to effectively communicate and engage with customers, be computer proficient, and enjoy working in an ethnically and socio-economically diverse environment.

Commitment: One 4-hour shift per week January 23-April 15th 2024. There is the optional opportunity to pick up additional volunteer shifts.

About Prepare + Prosper

Location:

2610 University Ave W, Suite 450, St. Paul, MN 55114, US

Mission Statement

Prepare + Prosper, formerly known as AccountAbility Minnesota, assists Minnesotans to move out of poverty by providing pathways to increase income, build assets and become financially secure, and by advocating for change that breaks down barriers to financial success.

Description

For 45 years, P+P has provided free tax and financial services to low- and moderate-income taxpayers. We facilitate economic security by helping many of the people we serve use their tax refunds to help them meet basic needs, build credit, and save.

Leveraging the support of more than 550 volunteers, we prepare taxes and offer financial services to thousands of Minnesotans via free clinics around the Twin Cities. In addition to ensuring that our customers claim all the tax credits they earned, we address the "money moment" of tax time connecting people to financial services that create pathways to economic security.

With the support of staff, our volunteers work cooperatively at our free tax clinics and are the core of our ability to provide these services in our community each year.

If you are committed to helping hardworking families get ahead, we have a volunteer position for you! One hour of your time can put $2,000 or more in the pocket of a family struggling to make ends meet.
