Flatbush Cats, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit on a mission to end the cat overpopulation crisis in Brooklyn has just launched an exciting and game-changing campaign to build a spay/neuter clinic in Brooklyn. This clinic will provide affordable and accessible vet care to pet owners and rescuers, saving thousands of lives for years to come.

We are seeking several remote Social Media and Donor Engagement volunteers to join our team during this time of significant growth and excitement. As one of these volunteers, you will play a critical role just a few hours per week to help us expand our reach as we fundraise and spread the word about our campaign to build our new clinic. If you likeand use social media and love cats, this role may be for you!


This role is a great opportunity to boost your social media marketing skills and make a huge impact on animal welfare. Gain valuable skills and experience in social media, marketing research, and donor relations, and volunteer with a dedicated team of animal lovers. The role is in our Development Department and is 2-5 hours per week for one month and then 1-2 hours per week after that.

Tasks include:

  • Conducting social media research to increase engagement
  • Monitoring social media analytics to optimize our branding activities
  • Identifying potential collaborators through external partner relationship coordination
  • Maintaining the brand and voice of Flatbush Cats through interacting with users and responding to social media messages, inquiries, and comments
  • Ensuring that questions are addressed in a timely manner and routed through proper channels
  • Organizing spreadsheets and reports relating to the above activities
  • Helping us recognize donors, thanking them, and building relationships / stewardship with awesome cat lovers around the world
  • Responding warmly to donor emails, acknowledging gifts and inquiries, flagging larger donations or possible partnerships for us to follow up on


Do you have access to and are a regular user of social media platforms including Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Twitter, Reddit, and Facebook and have a passion for social media and social management tools? Also in this role, you may use the platform Classy which is very similar to social media platforms and easily learned. Additionally, we’re seeking volunteers who ideally have:

  • Experience with research and analysis
  • Experience communicating with diverse audiences
  • Experience with spreadsheets (basic skills - inputting data)
  • Excellent communication skills, reliable, organized, and detail-oriented
  • Previous experience with social media research and engagement is desired
