ORGANIZATION: Emerging Markets Investors Alliance

About the Emerging Markets Investors Alliance ("the Alliance"): The Alliance is a 501(c)(3), not-for-profit organization based in New York City that enables institutional investors to support good governance, promote sustainable development, and improve investment performance in emerging market governments and companies. To advance its mission, the Alliance (a) organizes presentations by non-profits and policy makers to educate emerging market investors on governance issues; (b) draws on the same expertise to produce policy papers on key governance issues to empower investors to become effective advocates; and (c) facilitates dialogue on improving governance between investors and their corporate and sovereign investments.


About the Internship Opportunity: The Alliance is seeking a highly motivated intern to join our efforts to promote through our digital channels EMIA’s activities, education about sustainable investing in emerging markets, and activities from EMIA’s partners and personnel. The intern will handle tasks delegated by both the Social Media Director, Marketing DIrector, nad EMIA’s Editor, providing support on a wide variety of tasks related to organizing educational events for investors, developing our digital presence (web and social media), maintaining communications with our membership base, and producing graphic material for our digital channels. S/he will join an energetic start-up group that works collaboratively with high-capacity volunteers and partners from the world’s leading financial and civil society institutions.

Mission Statement

The Emerging Markets Investors Alliance (www.eminvestorsalliance.org) enables institutional investors to support good governance, promote sustainable development, and improve investment performance in the governments and companies in which they invest.

Description

Issue Focus: The Alliance focuses on ensuring that (1) government revenues are used to deliver public services to citizens rather than siphoned off by corruption and (2) corporate practices meet high standards for anti-corruption, human rights and animal welfare, and environmental sustainability. In particular, the Alliance has the following work streams: (1) government debt and fiscal governance, (2) oil & mining sector, (3) agricultural sector, and (5) environmental/social/governance (ESG) integration into the investment process.

Activities: The Alliance’s primary activities include (1) organizing educational events for investors, (2) producing research on ESG issues, and (3) organizing forums where investors and policy experts can engage with corporate or government officials.
