ORGANIZATION: Challenge Aspen

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Winter 2022-2023

On-Snow:

  • Local’s Race Team
    • 8-week program with special events
    • Runs both Thursdays and Saturday from beginning of January to the beginning of March (exact dates TBD)
    • Special events like Special Olympics National Competition are optional but recommended
    • Different season pass options available through this program

  • Buddy Program and Visually Impaired Guides
    • Buddy support is for expert skiers and snowboarder (level 7 or above)
    • One on one experience with volunteer and participant
    • Volunteers do not teach during buddy days, they assist with participant’s personal needs (i.e., helping put on equipment, VI guide, helping with terrain choice) and make sure the participant is having fun and being safe

  • REC Program
    • Private Lessons
      • Volunteers will assist in private lessons with an Aspen Skiing Company, adaptive-certified ski professional as their "seconds" helping with equipment set-up, safety procedures, lift loads, and social-emotional needs of the participant
    • Group Lessons
      • Volunteers will be paired with one participant or a small group of participants and assist an Aspen Skiing Company, adaptive-certified ski professional, to provide a safe and meaning ski lesson

  • CAMO - Challenge Aspen’s Military Opportunity Program
    • Group Lessons
      • Volunteers will be paired with one veteran or a small group of veterans and assist an Aspen Skiing Company, adaptive-certified ski professional provide a safe and meaning ski lesson
    • Volunteers may be asked to go to dinner with veteran groups and other activities if needed and if the volunteer is interested

  • Front Desk & Office Assistance
  • Ski Equipment Maintenance

  • Photography & Videography

Winter Volunteer Requirements

  • Volunteers must be a level 7 skier/rider
  • Must be at least 18 years old
    • All volunteers must agree to and pass a federal background check (every two years). The cost is $20 and is payable by cash, check, or venmo
  • Must complete other required paperwork, depending on program, prior to volunteering
  • Must complete required training, depending on program (required training for 2022-23 season TBD)

Challenge Aspen does have passes available for volunteers who commit a certain number of volunteer days per season. If you are interested in receiving a season pass from Challenge Aspen, please contact the volunteer manager. Every volunteer who does not have a pass will be given lift tickets for training and volunteer days.

Description

We provide year round activities for people of all abilities and ages. In the winter, we serve as the adaptive ski program for Aspen Skiing Company providing ski/snowboard lessons for individuals and groups. In the summer we provide camps and individual "custom adventures" for veterans and people with disabilities
