Would you like to use your Spanish in a real-world setting while helping the Latinx Community of Louisville? The Backside Learning Center is in search of a Social Services Intern! This position would involve helping clients schedule appointments, make copies, translate simple documents, and make phone calls, as well as other simple office duties such as counting and organizing resources. Training is provided and staff will always be present to answer questions. Hours are from 9 a.m-5 p.m. one to two days a week. Ideal hours are 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. Some Saturdays will be optional. Spanish speaking skills and proof of vaccine required.

Mission Statement

The Backside Learning Center is a nonprofit organization building community and enriching the lives of backside workers and families at Churchill Downs.


The Backside Learning Center provides free educational services to the men and women who work with the thoroughberd horses in the barn area, or backside, of Churchill Downs and Trackside in Louisville, KY. Our programming includes English-as-a-Second-Language (ESL), technology workshops, citizenship tutoring, art class, and music class. All of our classes & tutoring depend on volunteers. Family Education Program focusing on afterschool homework assistance for equine workers' children,

Note: BLC hours are between 9:00 am-8:00 pm Monday thru Friday. Days, times and frequency of direct service will fall between these hours but will depend upon the work schedule and availability of students and volunteers.
