The Photography Volunteer is responsible for working with Soldiers’ Angels staff to photograph special events such as Veteran Food Distribution, volunteer fairs, holiday events, fundraisers, and other occasions as needed. Volunteer needs may range from multiple times a month to less than once a month.

GOAL: Soldiers’ Angels has a presence in locations across the country with a limited number of staff located primarily in San Antonio, Texas. The goal of our photography volunteers is to assist in capturing photos at Soldiers’ Angels events and activities located in cities outside of San Antonio that will help showcase the impact Soldiers’ Angels has on the military and veteran communities throughout the United States. These photos could be used for grants, marketing materials, social media posts, website content, internet posts, and much more.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES to include but not limited to:

• Be able to attend events as needed with notification ranging from well in advance or short term.
• Assist Soldiers’ Angels staff and Key Role volunteers at events by being on-hand to capture photos and videos
• Take clear, engaging, and useful photographs.
• Learn and demonstrate best practices.
• Ensure photo release forms are filled out and turned into Key Role volunteers at events.
• Immediately following events, upload photos and notify the Marketing Team that the photos have been uploaded.
• In some instances, basic photo editing or enhancing may be needed or requested.

QUALIFICATIONS & PREFERRED SKILLS:

• At a minimum, must have an eye for photography and a high-quality smartphone and/or DSLR camera that they are willing to use for this volunteer position. Cameras are not provided and we do ask that the volunteer utilize their own smartphone and/or equipment.
• Basic understanding of photography for marketing, including capturing branding, setting up or staging engaging photos, etc.
• Basic knowledge of DSLR or mirrorless cameras and natural lighting, indoor and outdoor lighting techniques.
• Strong photographic compositional skills (i.e. rule of thirds).
• Basic knowledge of photo editing software such as Adobe Suite (Lightroom and/or Photoshop).
• Ability to size images and color settings for the web and social media.
• Video production & editing experience is a plus!
• Strong sense of deadlines and urgency to get the photos uploaded to our cloud as soon as possible.
• Basic knowledge of uploading high-quality photos to cloud-based platforms (such as DropBox).
• Reliable and can work independently without supervision.
• Willing to be flexible.
• Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work with a diverse variety of individuals.
• Online portfolio of digital photos as a reference.
• Positive attitude in a public setting.
