Capital Area Partnership Uplifting People Inc. (CAPUP) has been serving Richmond and the larger capital region of Virginia for more than 50 years. Our agency provides direct action aid - including meals, crisis assistance, employment training, and comprehensive support services - to homeless and low-income individuals and families across the Capital Region of Virginia.

We are seeking a Tax Support Services Volunteer that will work closely with the Special Programs Coordinator on all aspects of our work with the Virginia Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Tax Program and Greater Richmond’s Earned Income Tax Credit Coalition (EITC). These programs offer free assistance to people with low-to-moderate income, senior citizens, persons with disabilities, those who have limited English proficiency and others who are in need. Our goal as an agency is to make a difference in the lives of working families - to achieve greater financial independence - by providing cost free tax preparation and offering financial literacy guidance and education. As a volunteer in this capacity, you can expect to:

  • Assist with client referrals and intake processing.
  • Apply basic knowledge of tax laws and tax concepts.
  • Exhibit strong customer service skills with ability to empathize and instill confidence.

Capital Area Partnership Uplifting People, Inc. has been serving Richmond and the Capital Region of Virginia for more than 50 years. Originally known as the Richmond Community Action Program (RCAP), our private non-profit agency was created under the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 as a major component of the Johnson Administration's "War on Poverty." Our mission is to combat poverty and poverty-related issues in the Capital Region of Virginia by providing direct action and aid to individuals and families facing hardship.
