At the Adopt A Stream Foundation's Northwest Stream Center, we have a multitude of volunteer opportunities available for a wide variety of interests!

Volunteer Coordinators:

Seeking a team of up to 5 to recruit and coordinate volunteer activities at the NW Stream Center. Volunteers for this role must have excellent communication and computer skills and a demonstrated knack for organization.

Native Plant Landscape Stewards:

Seeking a team to manage the native plant landscapes around the NW Stream Center Visitors Building, Native Plant Salvage Yard, and Trout Stream Exhibit riparian zone.
The ideal volunteer will have a "green thumb" and knowledge of NW Botany. We plan to follow the WSU Master Gardner model and assign a section of the landscape to our volunteers to manage on their schedule.

NW Stream Center Docent Naturalist

Seeking volunteers who have excellent communication skills and the ability to learn the interconnections between forests, wetlands, streams, fish, wildlife, and people. After completing a training program, Docent Naturalists will commit to a minimum of two 4-hour shifts per month leading tours for visitors (up to 10 per group) past the Trout Stream Exhibit and along the Elevated Nature Walk to the Nature Store.

Trout Stream Exhibit Aquarists

Seeking volunteers to keep the water intake screen brushed, remove algae, monitor water quality, clean viewing windows, create in-stream trout habitat, plant and maintain the riparian zone, and maintain the Entry Trail. Certified divers may have the opportunity to create new trout habitat in the deep head water pools or in the pond at the mouth of the 160-foot long stream. Aquarists should be able to commit to a minimum of two 4-hour shifts per month.
Nature Store: Retail Sales
Seeking a team 50 of volunteers to get the new Nature Store "up and running." It is being located in the administrative office area at the west end of the Visitors Building and the offices are "moving upstairs" into the attic above. Each Nature Store Volunteer should be able to commit to a minimum of two four hour shifts per month. Once the store is fully operational, it will be open 6 days-a-week, Tuesday through Sunday.

Visitors Building Handy Persons

If you are adept at and enjoy fixing things that get broken we can put your talents to use. Fortunately, we do not need these services on a regular basis, but we are establishing a roster of volunteers with expertise in the following categories:
Electrician, Plumber, Painter, General Handy-Person.

Raised Boardwalk Interpretive Trail Botanist

Seeking a team of up to 20 volunteers with extensive knowledge of NW botany to conduct survey and map the majority of the NW Stream Center grounds (approximately 20-acres). Information gathered will be used to determine the route of up to one-mile of raised boardwalk interpretive trails.

Please send us a message with your interests and any questions!

Mission Statement

To teach people to become stewards of their watersheds.

The Adopt-A-Stream Foundation (AASF) carries out its mission by conducting Streamkeeper Academy programs, producing environmental education materials, and providing local communities with stream and wetland restoration technical assistance. AASF headquarters are located on a 20 acre site in Snohomish County's McCollum Park. This location is also home to the Northwest Stream Center, an environmental learning facility with a nature store, trout stream exhibit and a 1/2 mile long elevated nature trail that winds through and over wetlands, dense forest, and two salmon streams. The Adopt-A-Stream Foundation always welcomes help from volunteers in several areas, including: fund raising, membership services, administrative duties, staffing for the gate house and nature store, plant yard and grounds maintenance, Streamkeeper Academy teaching assistance, and stream and wetland restoration project assistance.
