Many Massachusetts mom-and-pop landlords who provide moderately priced housing for tenants are struggling to collect rent and make mortgage payments. Support our small landlords to help prevent serious and lasting harm on the rental market. Participation is 100% virtual, but we require 6-10 hours per week and at least three months' commitment. Whether you are a lawyer, law student, paralegal, or committed volunteer, we may have a program that suits your qualifications and interest. Training and staff support will be provided. Our programs were developed to find, educate, and advise small landlords on their rights and responsibilities and provide assistance and resources.

We currently need volunteers to fill the below two programs:

UPSTREAM SERVICES

  • Contact pro se litigants via telephone and email to inform them about available programs and services
  • Participation available immediately
  • Training will be provided

Mission Statement

To increase access to justice by delivering high quality pro bono civil legal services to eligible clients in the Greater Boston area.

Description

Quality Representation for Those in Need : For more than 40 years the Volunteer Lawyers Project has been dedicated to serving families and individuals in the Greater Boston Area from lower income households. We represent US citizens, green card holders, and certain legal immigrants. We strive to give equal access to justice, representing and assisting clients in civil law cases as outlined below. Even if a client does not qualify for our services, we do our very best to provide referrals to others who may help. Please understand that representation may be restricted due to the scope of our funding. We do not handle personal injury cases, criminal cases, or represent prisoners on any legal matters.
