Camphill Village Copake has been working for social and personal change for 60 years. People have come together to try to build a new model for life on this planet. Change only happens when we put our thinking into action. You could act by joining us. We are now accepting applications for openings beginning in Summer 2024.

Volunteers at Camphill Village Copake gain practical skills such as biodynamic and organic gardening, farming, baking, crafting, woodworking and basic homesteading skills. Volunteers join our community from around the world for at least one year and sometimes longer.

Camphill Village is situated on 615 acres of wooded hills, gardens and pastures in upstate New York. Volunteers live in extended family style homes along with adults with developmental differences and everyone contributes in a way that is meaningful to them.

Responsibilities:

Volunteers are responsible for supporting people with developmental differences in their activities of daily living and to integrate actively into the house community. This could include:

  • Joining housemates in social outings
  • Emotional support
  • Cooking meals
  • Participating in house meetings
  • Supporting workplaces around the village
  • Personal care
  • Cleaning common spaces

Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to perform well in an environment that requires compassion, helpfulness, patience and resourcefulness
  • Willingness to learn and take responsibility
  • Must pass a background check

Compensation

  • Monthly allowance for incidental expenses
  • Medical insurance from arrival until departure
  • Free room and board (private room in a community house)
  • 3 weeks of paid vacation
  • Basic toiletries and daily living items
  • Daily organic, fresh meals
  • One full day off during the week

Because Camphill Village is a campus of the Camphill Academy, you can earn your certification in one of our three Inclusive Social Development programs here in the Village. Our ability to offer this enriching coursework aligns with our wish to encourage all residents to pursue their interests and passions and develop meaningful relationships along the way.

Mission Statement

At Camphill Village, we share life: joys and sorrows, celebrations and prayers, work, play, meals, and song. Each person is encouraged to achieve his or her full potential at every stage of life.

Description

The founding of Camphill Village in 1961 was part of a transformative movement in the United States to reform how society treats people with special needs.

Instead of isolation and institutionalization, exclusion and separation, Camphill Village celebrates and honors the uniqueness, dignity and spiritual integrity of each individual, regardless of outward appearance or disability.

On 615 acres of wooded hills, gardens, and pastures in rural upstate New York, adults with special needs and long- and short-term service volunteers strive to live and work together as equals in extended families in homes throughout the Village.

A leader in biodynamic organic agriculture, our gardens and farm weave the community with the cycles of nature coinciding with and reflected by seasonal festivals.
