Our mission is to employ those who are blind. That means many of our professionals who are training other people who are blind, are actually blind themselves and cannot drive. We are seeking volunteers to drive our Orientation and Mobility Instructor to Lindale ISD to provide training to students who are blind attending Lindale ISD.
Each Monday during the school year, this volunteer would arrive at our Front Street location at 8:00 am, transport our instructor to and around Lindale, then transport him back to our office around 1. This opportunity doesn't require any out of the car volunteering. Our company car is a Toyota Sienna.
Volunteers can sign up for as many or as few Monday's as they would like. We can use multiple volunteers.

Mission Statement

Description
The East Texas Lighthouse for the Blind was created in 1976 as a employment resource for those who are blind. Since that time, we have expanded not only in the number of people who are blind that we employ but also in our Client Services Division that serves the blind community across 40 counties in East Texas. We have a wide range of programs and services all promoting independence and self actualization with the ultimate goal of hope and perseverance despite vision loss. Thanks to our manufacturing division Horizon Industries, most of our resource are completely free to our clients. Our vision is to remove barriers and create opportunities, and recently we've been doing that even on the national scale through our online Microsoft Office classes. From here in Tyler, we've provided one of a kind Microsoft Office/Assistive Technology Training across 8 states where over 50% of the graduates received some sort of career advancement after taking our training. Our future is bright, and we are looking for community members to join us as we empower the blind.
