In the aftermath of a disaster - from home fires to hurricanes and everything in between - you know that Red Cross volunteers will be there to help. But did you know that we also help families and communities prepare for emergencies before they happen?

Red Cross Disaster Preparedness Volunteers teach people how to reduce the risk of disaster, prepare to respond effectively, and cope with disasters when they happen. Sound interesting? We invite you to get involved! The skills you learn will enable you to help your own home and family, while you also help your wider community be more prepared and resilient.

Opportunities in your community may include:
  • Boots on the Ground positions to support our Home Fire Campaign, including conducting in-home smoke alarm installation and fire safety education visits
  • Instructor/Presenter positions to deliver adult and youth education programs focused on preparedness, disasters and life-saving hands-only CPR
