Do you love working with older adults? Southern Maine Agency on Aging and the Sam L. Cohen Center in Biddeford are seeking Activity Aides to help with the Adult Day Programming. Every day is full of fun activities with our members; they love to sing, play games, do arts and crafts, cook and bake! Come and share your creativity and talents with older adults living with memory impairments!
The Cohen Center is currently open during business hours Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Volunteers can create their own schedule to come in weekly or monthly for the full day or for two hour shifts.
What specific tasks will the volunteer(s) perform?: Play cards, sing, play an instrument, lead arts & crafts, lead a cooking group, help serve meals, read, etc.
Qualities, experience & skills needed by the volunteers: Ability to work with people with some level of dementia; patience, kindness, good sense of humor, love of people, the ability to see the value of all people.
Number of volunteers needed: At least 2-3 volunteers per day.
Where can the volunteer(s) work?: Sam L. Cohen Center - 30 Barra Road, Biddeford, ME, 04005
When can the volunteer(s) work?: ADC operates on MWF. Full day shifts from 10:00am - 2:00pm, or two hour shifts 9:30 - 11:30am, 10:00 - 12:00pm, 1:00 - 3:00pm.
What length of commitment is expected of the volunteer(s)?: 1 year minimum, as background checks must be completed by SMAA for any individual that has direct contact with day center members.

Southern Maine Agency on Aging Volunteer Services provides opportunities to make a difference in the community through volunteer service. Volunteers contribute anywhere from a few to over forty hours a week, serving through schools, meals on wheels, hospitals and other nonprofit and public organizations to help meet critical community needs. We offer maximum flexibility and choice to our volunteers. RSVP matches the personal interests and skills of the over age 55 volunteer to opportunities in selected imapct service areas to help solve community problems. RSVP volunteers receive supplemental insurance while on duty, and on-the-job training from the agency or organization where they are placed.
