Are you looking for a way to give back to your community? Do you want to work with a young person who needs support, care, and a role model?

We need YOU to mentor a student experiencing foster care.

Be A Mentor is partnering with Alameda County Office of Education (ACOE) to support youth in foster care. Since this program is through ACOE, the youth in the program are from Alameda County; however, are residing in the Modesto/Oakdale area, and need the support of a local mentor who can listen to and spend time with them while they are away from home.

This is an in-person mentoring program. You will spend most of your time in the community with your mentee exploring, talking, and learning about their needs. There will be opportunities to connect with other mentors and mentees in the area for support and activities.

1 on 1 mentoring gives students more opportunities for success regardless of their background. It’s especially important for youth who may not have consistent adults in their lives to connect with.

All mentors are required to complete a background check and mentor trainings. Our mentoring coordinator will be available for support throughout the program. We ask that you commit to at least 2-hours per week for a full calendar year. Consistency is important to build trust between you and your mentee, especially when youth in foster care have experienced many relationship disruptions.

Description

The Be A Mentor Program pairs caring adult volunteers from the community with youth in one-to-one relationships. Mentors give of their time to be a friend, answering questions, and providing guidance.
