ORGANIZATION: Idealist.org

Recruiting Organization: Blue Heart

Blue Heart funds grassroots organizations building the political power of low-income communities and communities of color. In turn, we help develop and inspire an ethic of philanthropy in individuals seeking to engage with social and environmental justice issues.

Every month, we feature a different community-led, grassroots organization in the Bay Area and nationally. We send our members stories from frontline movement builders, political education to understand the context and history of their movements, and a set of action opportunities to engage further. Our members make recurring monthly donations, the majority of which goes directly to our grassroots partner organizations. And a portion goes to our Creator's Fund, which makes small annual grants to support these organizations in communicating their revolutionary visions through collaborative projects with artists.

Time commitment: 8-10 hours/month

We are looking for an Events Coordinator to join our team. Events are a crucial way that Blue Heart members learn and grow with each other. Events are also a primary new member recruitment, fundraising, and education tool for us.

We have ~2 large events (40+ people) per year, and 5-7 smaller events (20-40 people). Current event types include member events, workshops, panel discussions, large speaker events, and houseparty discussions. Our events are currently virtual, but we plan to slowly and cautiously implement in person events.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with the leadership team to develop and implement an annual events strategy
  • Coordinate logistics, speakers, technology, and communications to execute events
  • Develop and distribute event promotion materials (email, social media)
  • Manage the event registration process
  • Bring forward creative ideas to make Blue Heart events fun, engaging, and unforgettable :)

What we are looking for:

  • Experience with coordinating events
  • Experience working with Google Suite and Canva, a plus
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Alignment with Blue Heart’s vision, mission, and values
  • Excited to bring ideas, energy, and creativity to the Blue Heart team!
  • We strongly encourage people of color, Indigenous, gender-oppressed, LBGTQI+, and differently abled people to apply, particularly folks connected to the work of our grassroots partners

You’ll get to work with our team of friendly, passionate volunteers and play a critical role in growing Blue Heart’s reach and impact!
