LIFE is LIVING Oakland is a year-round project and annual Festival bringing a holistic approach to celebrating urban life through hip hop, intergenerational health, and environmental action.

On Saturday October 8, 2022, 7,000 people, the majority of whom are people of color and West Oakland residents, produce the festival by reclaiming critical public space and positioning life with healthy living and arts at its center as a necessary element of community identity, responsibility, and interaction.

The Festival features panels, workshops, activities and concerts, including an invitational dance battle, live action sports, sustainable materials construction projects, bay area theater groups and a Free Breakfast Program modeled on the work of the Black Panthers Party. As we reflect the voices of an emerging cultural majority, we recognize that our arts practices must echo and sustain the lives of the communities we engage.
