Did you know someone needs blood every two seconds? Every day, roughly 36,000 units of red blood cells are needed in the US. Simply put, that’s a lot of blood that is severely needed. Thankfully, many heed the need and donate blood. To continue to meet this critical need, the Virginia Region is looking for dependable, safe and courteous drivers to deliver lifesaving blood products.
As a Blood Transportation Specialists, you can be the critical link between blood donors and recipients. Volunteers take on regular routes and are on standby for emergency runs.
- Willingness to comply with Red Cross COVID-19 policies.
- Willingness to support the Red Cross mission, required
- Valid state driver's license and 3 years of licensed driving experience, required
- Familiarity with geographic area and driving routes, required
- Able to verify safe driving record (Note: An MVR check will be completed as a part of the interview process for this position), required
- Current insurance and state registration if using personal vehicle, required
- Ability to lift 45 lbs., required
- Successful completion of American Red Cross Transportation Specialist Training and Defensive Driving course upon acceptance in position, required
- 2-4 shifts/month for a minimum of 6 months. Shifts are generally 4 hours each and are variable per site in the daytime, evening and weekends.
