Helen's Hope Chest helps foster and kinship families by providing clothing, school supplies, books, basic needs, birthday and Christmas gifts. It is our mission to engage the community to provide support and essential assistance for foster youth and families. We do this by providing new and like-new clothing, shoes, and other essential supplies at no cost to the foster child/ family in a warm, caring, boutique-like environment.
We are looking for community members who are interested in serving youth in foster care.
Volunteers receive and sort donations of new and gently used clothing, shoes, toys, books, and hygiene supplies. We wash laundry, sort clean clothes, and hang clothes in our "boutique" where children and teens in foster care can pick out items.
Volunteers may interact with foster families and children.
We like volunteers to commit to serving 3-4 hours at least once a week.
Please go to our website at https://helenshopechest.org to complete the volunteer application.

Mission Statement
Engaging the community to provide for the basic needs of children and teens in foster and kinship care.
Description
In 2009, Arizona foster families experienced a 50% reduction in basic needs financial assistance as well as an influx of children in need of their care. Difficult financial conditions on a national scale and the high cost of caring for children forced many families to foster fewer children or to close their doors to new placements entirely. Mesa United Way created Helen’s Hope Chest to reduce the financial burden on foster and kinship families while creating a safe, welcoming, and dignified space for the children in their care.
Helen’s Hope Chest envisions a community where every child in care understands their value and self-worth, and that they have a place in our community, while every foster/kinship parent knows that they are supported. We do this by providing our services in a welcoming shop-by-appointment storefront where foster youth come to pick out clothing, school supplies, and other basic needs free of cost.
