In the United States this year, it is estimated that 42 million people will experience food insecurity while we throw away 40% of our food supply. At a time when there is so much hunger and we are experiencing the effects of climate change firsthand, we are throwing away the very food that could feed those in need and reduce its impact on climate change. Using a web-based app, Food Rescue US engages volunteers to transfer fresh food surpluses from local businesses to social service agencies serving the food insecure. Food Rescue US - Willowbrook is searching for a strong leader to manage an existing food recovery program in Willowbrook, IL. The role of Site Director primarily involves creating and managing partnerships within the community. The role requires excellent organizational skills, comfort with technology, and, of course, some commitment of your time. While most of the work can be done on a very flexible schedule, it does require receiving and responding to emails, text messages, and calls in a timely manner. Food Rescue US Site Directors bring different skill sets and experiences to our work, but they all share a passion for their community and our mission. Please reach out to Victoria Zapatta (firstname.lastname@example.org) to further discuss this volunteer role.
About Food Rescue US
1127 High Ridge Rd, Suite 338, Stamford, CT 06905, US
Food Rescue US is committed to ending American food insecurity by directly transferring fresh, usable food that would have otherwise been thrown away from restaurants, grocers and other food industry sources to food insecure families throughout the U.S.
Food Rescue US exists as a platform for the rescue of healthy surplus food, to be direcctly transferred to those in need. Hunger is no longer just a challenge to the homeless and jobless, hunger happens near us; it happens to families we know, to people with jobs and homes who are trying desperately to make life work.
What Can We Do?
Join us! Become a food rescuer and help those in need in your own community!
This platform is a toolbox of information and we focus on training, technology, and coordination to make volunteering and donating as simple and effective as possible. We're not saying that ending unnecessary hunger in our communities will be easy, but we do believe it's simple and that all of our efforts when combined form something substantial. In this case, since we began, that is over 17 million meals delivered and 28 million pounds of food saved from landfill.
