Have you ever wanted to make a difference in the lives of those with life-limiting illnesses, nearing the end of their life? Look no further than becoming a hospice volunteer! Our volunteers are an integral part of our hospice team!



What do hospice volunteers do? :

Provide respite for patient caregivers by sitting with a patient for a period of time, allowing the caregiver to get some relief.

Provide companionship to patients for socialization.

Read to patients, play games, paint nails, and be a supportive presence.

Assist with other support needs of patients or caregivers such as light housekeeping or being with patients in their final hours, if needed and appropriate.

Various admin/office support needs (we’re a small agency and welcome the support!)

Assist the interdisciplinary team at events, supporting our community partners.

If qualified/licensed professional, may provide bereavement support, massage therapy, pet therapy, reiki, tc.

Drop off supplies, treats, blankets, etc., to our patients.


Time Required: The companion volunteer will visit their companion at a frequency decided between patient, volunteer, and volunteer coordinator (ex: 1 visit per month or 3 visits per month.) There are also other "as needed" opportunities that arise occasionally and opportunities for office support.


Qualifications:

Self-motivation, dependable and responsible.
Ability to communicate well with people of diverse backgrounds and ages.

Able to respect confidentiality at all times.

Able to work independently and in a changing environment.

Able to practice proper infection control.

Able to maintain appropriate personal and professional boundaries.

Comfortable with the death and dying process.

Must be at least 18 years of age.

At this time, we are requiring all volunteers to have their COVID-19 vaccination.


Requirements:

Completion of interview, application, background check and volunteer orientation.

Submission of COVID-19 vaccine card.

Completion of TB test.

Ability to maintain the plan of care including the agreed upon companionship visits.

Maintains open communication with other team members, reporting events or changes of concern to the Volunteer Coordinator or the other team members.

Record accurate, objective, timely documentation of volunteer activities.

Complete mandatory required learning activities annually and as needed.

Attend volunteer support meetings and education as needed.

Transportation availability. We provide hospice to wherever someone calls home, from Castle Rock to Broomfield!
