Do you enjoy working with children?

If so, look no further and volunteer at YouthBASE!

YouthBASE is a free yearlong Afterschool Program. We work with children in K5 - 2nd grade. During the school year, YouthBASE runs from 3:00 pm- 5:30 pm. During the summer we run from 8:30 am - 2:00 pm. Our students go on field trips on Fridays during the school year. All year long we provide math, reading, and writing classes to our students. We also have Family Nights that take place once a month and it's from 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm.

Volunteer Opportunities:

  • Regular volunteering: We may have you follow a group of children during their rotation of reading, writing, or math, or we may have you remain in one classroom during our rotations and help with activities taking place in the classroom.
  • Family Night Sponsor (small groups): During Family Nights, parents and children engage in fun activities designed to increase family interaction. We are always in need of sponsors who would like to prepare, provide, deliver and serve dinner to families at Family Night. This can be a one-time service opportunity or ongoing.

**Before getting started, you will need to complete a volunteer orientation that takes about 30 minutes and do a background check. Must be willing to commit to coming once a week.

About YouthBASE

Location:

103 S Texas Avenue, Greenville, SC 29611, US

Mission Statement

YouthBASE equips children in K5-2nd grades and their families to build the child’s behavioral, academic, social and emotional competencies so they may succeed at school, home, and in the community. We envision a community where all children succeed. Success to us means that children have age-appropriate behavior and social/emotional capacities/opportunities and grade level academic proficiency to experience success at school, at home and in community.

Description

YouthBASE is an evidence-based afterschool and summer program that is designed to help provide a better future for children in Greenville. We believe a deficit in one area affects the entire child, and that every child deserves to have a future.

Our philosophy is holistic and understands that to be successful, YouthBASE must connect a child’s home, school, and after-school environments. To make this connection, we offer an unique approach compared to traditional afterschool and summer programs:

  • Children have individualized behavior and academic plans that are adapted with progress.
  • YouthBASE staff establishes effective collaborations between families, schools, teachers and after-school staff.
  • Family engagement programs offer support to parents through CafĂ© de Madres and Family Nights.
  • Children are provided a wealth of opportunities to establish strong, safe relationships and connect with the community.
