Women’s Resource Center
The Women’s Resource Center (WRC) is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to leading domestic violence prevention through the empowerment of individuals and the community by providing advocacy, education, and support services. The WRC is the premier domestic violence agency for the East Bay of RI and the backbone of the Newport Health Equity Zone. The WRC Board of Directors comprises leaders and community members from the nonprofit and for-profit sectors who are dedicated to the organization’s mission. WRC’s board strives to be a model of governance performance. Our board members champion the importance of exceptional board leadership and believe that every organization needs a strong and effective board to fully realize its potential for good. In addition to the standard roles and responsibilities of oversight, our board members are active advocates and ambassadors for the organization and engaged in fund development efforts to identify and secure the financial resources and partnerships necessary for the WRC to advance its mission.

Job Description
The Board shall provide mission-based leadership and strategic governance of the WRC. The Board operates as a collective to assure the public trust in the organization’s pursuit of its mission. The Board of Directors is accountable through oversight for the organizational health and effectiveness of the WRC and ensures the organization pursues its mission in a prudent and ethical manner.

Board Terms/Participation
Board Members will serve a three-year term to be eligible for re-appointment for one additional term. Board meetings are held monthly and committee meetings are held at least quarterly or more frequently as needed.

Desired Skills and Expertise
We are currently recruiting for diversity in leadership that is representative of the population(s) we serve and the East Bay community, who are looking to make an impact on their community through volunteer Board Membership. We are currently in need of a board member with strong finance or human resource background, but also appreciate an affinity for our mission and expertise in public health or community engagement. Candidates who work or live in the East Bay of Rhode Island are preferred. However, all interested persons are invited to apply!
