Companionship Volunteer Needed in Muskegon

ORGANIZATION: Hospice of Michigan

HOM Logo

We are seeking companionship volunteers with weekday availability to visit hospice patients in the Muskegon area. Visits occur where the patient lives, whether it be at home, or in a nursing or assisted living facility. As a companionship volunteer, there is no hands-on physical care; rather, you spend time visiting, reminiscing, reading, watching movies, playing music or games, or simply being a presence for someone in need. To get started, please submit an online application. An interview and additional documentation (TB test, background check, and fingerprinting) will follow. Volunteers then complete an orientation and have opportunities for continued education and networking with other volunteers. Please consider our one year guidelines: Volunteers are asked to make a one year commitment to the program, and if you have recently lost a loved one, please take one year for yourself to heal before giving your time as a volunteer.

Mission Statement

To ensure quality of life, comfort, and peace for our patients and provide support for their loved ones during their end-of-life experience. We will serve everyone in our communities who needs and seeks our care and strive to improve the state of comfort care.

Description

What sets us apart

Our staff - Our dedicated doctors, nurses, social workers, counselors and hospice aides form a "cocoon of care" around our patients and families, providing comfort, support and dignity.

Our expertise - Because we are one of the largest hospices in the nation, we have specialists in many areas, including pediatric hospice, pain management, research and care for people with advanced dementia and other illnesses.

Our experience - We have been serving our communities for more than 30 years. Among our 600 employees, we have more board-certified hospice physicians and nurses than other hospices.

Our locations - We have offices and worksites throughout the Lower Peninsula of Michigan. Wherever you are, we have a team of hospice specialists who can help you.

Our commitment - We care for all who need and seek our care, regardless of their age, diagnosis or ability to pay. We are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week for our patients and families and for admissions.

Our size - We serve nearly 800 patients and their families every day; nearly one in four hospice patients in Michigan.
