Seeking volunteer ESL tutors for adult refugees living in central and northern New Jersey. Can be remote or in-person. It is very helpful to have ESL experience or general teaching experience, but this is not required. Materials are provided through Google Drive library and/or physical books. You do not need to speak a common language with the refugees being taught (in fact it is advantageous to not have a common language so we can encourage practicing English!). Refugee students are from many different countries of origin and vary in their English proficiency from pre-literate beginners to intermediate English. You and the volunteer coordinator will work together to match you to a student. Background check is required through RAP, using the Sterling Volunteers service (if you already have a background check through Sterling Volunteers, you can simply share your report with RAP). We are a 501c3 registered nonprofit concentrating on advocacy and promoting social, emotional, educational and economic success among refugees who are established in New Jersey.
