Description: YesLiberia needs a passionate volunteer Reporter/Journalist based in Monrovia, Liberia to help creatively capture and compile frequent news stories by investigating and writing rich and compelling articles for the organization. The ideal candidate MUST already have verifiable relationships with newspapers or media agencies in Liberia. This is a 100% volunteer role for residents living in Monrovia, Liberia.

Responsibilities:

1. Help establish great relationships and contacts at local media agencies and newspapers for publishing or broadcasting YesLiberia’s news stories monthly

2. Research, interview, collect, verify, and thoroughly analyze information from various internal and external sources; maintain all notes and audio recordings in YesLiberia’s folders

3. Write and deliver news stories about YesLiberia with the reader’s perspective in mind

4. Ensure news stories are regularly published in local newspapers or media agencies (online and offline platforms); abide by journalism’s ethics and codes

5. Help create radio interview opportunities for YesLiberia leadership, team members, including yourself, and some students/parents

6. As needed, work with reporters, news editors, producers, etc. to publish stories

7. Stay up-to-date with the latest current events in the "beat" by studying papers, attending events etc.

Requirements:

1. Proven working experience as a reporter, journalist, or blogger in Liberia

2. MUST have current relationships with various media agencies or newspapers in Liberia

3. Excellent communications, lobbying and active listening skills with integrity and morality

4. Existing portfolio of published articles or newscasts

5. Ability to gather, edit, and write compelling news articles or opinions

6. Broad knowledge of headlines style writing

7. Computer proficiency in MS Office, Google doc, Google sheet, digital editing, web search, etc.

8. A degree or certificate in journalism, reporting, or mass communications
